Independent systems · Shared infrastructure · Applied thinking

Useful structure for work that does not fit neatly inside one.

Oatman Group is an independent collaborative organization supporting multidisciplinary initiatives across technology, infrastructure, planning, and applied research.

Distributed by design.
Selectively coordinated.
Continuously in development.

A framework for independent work.

Oatman Group provides a common organizational layer for projects, practices, and independent initiatives that benefit from shared identity, durable infrastructure, and flexible coordination. Collectively, this operating framework is referred to simply as The Group.

Rather than imposing a single operating discipline, the Group is structured to support varied forms of work while preserving autonomy at the initiative level. This allows systems, resources, and knowledge to be shared where useful without creating unnecessary organizational weight.

Work organized around practical domains.

Our areas of practice reflect recurring patterns of work rather than fixed service lines. Individual initiatives may operate within one domain or move between several as their requirements evolve.

01

Systems & Infrastructure

Development, integration, and refinement of practical systems supporting connected environments, information flow, automation, and resilient day-to-day operations.

02

Strategy & Operations

Structured approaches to planning, resource allocation, process improvement, and coordination across changing requirements and overlapping areas of responsibility.

03

Research & Development

Exploration of technologies, methods, and emerging tools with an emphasis on useful application, iterative learning, and informed experimentation.

04

Independent Initiatives

Member-led work that operates outside conventional organizational boundaries while benefiting from shared infrastructure, identity, continuity, and selective collaboration.

Lightweight where possible. Structured where useful.

Distributed by design. Selectively coordinated. Continuously in development.

The Group operates through a distributed model designed to preserve independence while providing continuity across initiatives. Participation, ownership, and responsibility develop around the needs of the work rather than a fixed hierarchy.

Shared foundations

Common infrastructure and identity support continuity without requiring centralized execution.

Local ownership

Individual initiatives retain practical control over scope, methods, priorities, and pace.

Selective coordination

Resources and expertise are aligned when useful rather than standardized by default.

Iterative development

Systems are treated as evolving structures, with refinement guided by practical use over time.

Applied work developed through The Group.

Initiatives provide a practical structure for work that benefits from continuity, shared infrastructure, or cross-domain coordination. Scope may range from ongoing operational systems to exploratory projects with intentionally flexible endpoints.

About The Group

The Group

Distributed membership · Independent practices

The Group is maintained by a small network of independent members whose work, interests, and areas of practice intersect selectively across initiatives.
